As matchers get better in ABIS systems, the latent print community is finding more close non-matches and the opportunity for an erroneous identification has increased. While the latent print community recognizes this is happening, there have not been many presentations regarding how to handle or approach an erroneous identification. This presentation covers what happened when an erroneous identification was found. It deals with what happened from the standpoint of the technical leader (quality assurance) and from the standpoint of the analyst who had the erroneous identification. It reviews what was learned, what was done well and where there was room for improvement.
