Description

The City of Chandler Police Department is currently seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our team as a Crime Scene Technician Lead. This is a full-time, non-exempt position with benefits. This position will be required to work various schedules to include days, swings, nights, weekends and holidays.

Who we are looking for
Our ideal candidate will have a passion for customer service, teamwork and collaboration.  The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in Forensics, Criminalistics, Chemistry or related field and four (4) years of experience as a Crime Scene Technician.  An Arizona Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AZAFIS) 10-print certification is desired.  

Essential Duties
1. Serves as first-line shift or road supervisor.
2. Provides technical guidance to assigned staff, prioritizes and assigns work, trains staff, and assures work quality and timely completion of assigned duties; acts as a subject matter expert for employees assigned to a related class; may participate in hiring staff and/or provide input for use in performance evaluations and ensures methods and procedures comply with departmental standards.
3. Leads crime scene staff in processing of complex crime scenes, oversees examining, identifying, and evaluating evidence.
4. Completes quality reviews and performs technical and administrative review of casework.
5. Creates work schedules ensures onsite coverage, may serve as technical lead for area of expertise and performs the functions of a Crime Scene Senior Technician.

Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s  Degree in Forensics, Criminalistics, Chemistry or related field; and
• Four  (4) years of experience as a Crime Scene Technician;
• Obtain Crime Scene Certification through the International Association for Identification within one (1) year of hire or promotion date;
• Valid Arizona Driver’s License with acceptable driving record; or
• Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

Desirable Qualifications  
• Arizona Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AZAFIS) 10-print certification.
•Six or more years’ experience as a crime scene technician
•Lead/supervisory experience
•International Association for Identification (IAI) Crime Scene Certification
•JusticeTrax/LIMS experience
•ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) Technical Assessor
•ABIS Ten Print Operator

The City of Chandler fingerprints all applicants selected for hire to evaluate the fitness of prospective employees. The examination process may vary if determined necessary. The City of Chandler will conduct a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.  An offer of employment is contingent upon acceptable results.

The position available is regular full-time and subject to a one (1) year probationary period.  A register of qualified candidates will be active for six (6) months should another position become available.
